Winter 2024
Schools offer
Traverse Hotham offers memorable and unique on-snow experiences for school groups designed to engage both active minds and bodies. Our snowshoeing and/or cross country skiing activities may comprise the core snow component of a wider school trip or complement traditional week-long snow trips by adding diversity to the overall experience. There's so much more to our alpine resort areas in Winter besides hurtling down ski slopes – we hope to foster an appreciation and understanding of the broader alpine environment while learning practical and fun ways of getting around in the snow.
SNOWSHOEING
Snowshoeing is a magical way to explore our Winter alpine environment up close at a human pace – the only way really since you’d sink in normal walking boots! Our snowshoe experiences focus on interpretation of geological features, unique alpine flora, endangered native fauna and invasive species, placing these in contexts of historical time, human impacts and climate change. Itineraries can be crafted to target specific aspects of curriculum and/or interests.
CROSS COUNTRY SKIING
Discover the joys of self-propelled gliding on lightweight Nordic skis through magnificent alpine surrounds - no lift tickets, no queues, no crowds. Widely acknowledged as one of the best forms of aerobic exercise known, we start by focusing on the key building blocks of maintaining balance, weight shifting and efficient glide via coordinated body movements. Skills, safety awareness and confidence are built by applying knowledge through teamwork drills and challenges.
